Proclaim is an inclusive nude lingerie line made in Los Angeles from earth-conscious fabrics.  We are founded on the principles that fashion should represent all women and can be made in a way that does good for people and the planet.  Proclaim is expanding the definition of nude, one ethically made bra at a time.

 

MADE FROM EARTH-CONSCIOUS FABRICS

We design with a variety of sustainable fabrics, each with their own unique earthy-friendly properties.

CUPRO

Cupro is a regenerated cellulose fabric that is made from recycled cotton linter, the fluffy fiber around the plant’s seeds. These linter fibers are too small to be spun and are usually thrown away during cotton production. To create cupro, the cotton linter is dissolved and spun into new fibers and woven into this smooth, durable fabric. Given its cellulose origin and production process, it’s part of the same family of fabrics as Tencel, rayon, Modal and Lyocell. 

We love cupro because it’s a vegan, cruelty free and machine washable alternative to silk that drapes beautifully.

ORGANIC COTTON + HEMP

We use an organic cotton and hemp blend that we love for it’s natural, durable quality. Organic cotton is made without the toxic substances and polluting pesticides conventional cotton is known for. This is knit with hemp, another natural fiber we dig because it is naturally antimicrobial with a high UV resistance.

Hemp fibers are known for their strong and durable nature. The plant is also naturally resistant to insect pests and predators.

REPREVE® RECYCLED POLYESTER

Plastic waste is a global epidemic. In the U.S. alone, 35 billion plastic bottles get thrown away in a year and can take up to 1,000 years to degrade.

In choosing this fabric, we wanted to be a part of the solution for addressing plastic waste which is rapidly filling up our landfills and oceans. Proclaim’s ultra-soft fabric is not only manufactured in the USA but is also made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic water bottles.

THE PROCESS

We use plastic water bottles labeled with the #1 on the bottom. These bottles have the same chemistry make-up as polyester, which is called PET, or technically known as polyethylene terephthalate.

Plastic bottles are first sorted, washed and chopped into flakes. The clean flakes are blended, melted and turned into REPREVE® recycled chips. Finally, the chips enter an innovative extrusion and texturing process and get transformed into fibers.

REPREVE® is the only fiber with UTRUST, which certifies recycled content claims through traceable FiberPrint™ technology.  The fibers we use are BPA-free. They are certified by Scientific Certification Systems (SCS) for recycled content claims and have received the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, ensuring that they are free of harmful levels of more than 100 restricted chemicals.

TENCEL™

TENCEL™ is the super-soft, sustainable fabric your underwear drawer has been waiting for.

TENCEL™ fibers are produced from wood pulp from sustainably managed sources.  They have earned United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) BioPreferred® designation. 

The fibers have gained a reputation for their environmentally responsible closed loop production process, which transforms wood pulp into cellulosic fibers with high resource efficiency and low ecological impact.

This solvent-spinning process recycles water and reuses the solvent at a recovery rate of more than 99%.

We love this fabric for its soft touch and sustainable, transparent supply chain.

MINIMIZING TEXTILE WASTE 

We strive to minimize textile waste in our production process by designing strategically. By carefully laying out our patterns, we create relatively few fabric scraps during the cutting process. We've been collecting scraps since PROCLAIM began in 2017 to repurpose into new building materials like insulation.

ETHICALLY MADE IN LOS ANGELES

Our pieces are made locally in Los Angeles where we’ve partnered with a family-owned, BIPOC-owned apparel factory in LA that pays well above minimum wage and pays employees hourly wages rather than per piece (a practice that often promotes quantity over quality and unsafe work conditions).  

Most of the employees have worked at the factory for 14 years, when the company first started. By manufacturing locally, we work closely throughout the production process - stopping by throughout the week to connect and collaborate with our talented cutting and sewing partners.

Our factory meets the strict labor standards of the City of Los Angeles and State of California and we are committed to working towards payment of a living wage, defined as the hourly rate that an individual in a household must earn to support themselves and their family. 

We also work with three local mills to source all of our sustainable fabrics, allowing us to reduce the carbon footprint of our manufacturing process by having our supply chain localized to a 30-mile radius. By manufacturing in Los Angeles, we are proud to contribute to the diverse and sustainable economy where we live.
